I tried to set off at 6.30am but missed my 5.30am alarm. Still, I woke myself up at 6.00am and then set off at 7.20am so as to enjoy the lack of any wind, temperature and traffic, almost just like yesterday, the day before and the previous cycling day to the day before and the day before that even.
I had breakfast in my room Cherrios, 5 fig rolls (they are sooooo nice), blueberry cliff bar (almost as soooo nice – one less “o”).
The wind as due to get up to 30mph in Fallon today so I was keen to miss this experience and luckily I did. The wind kicked in later in the afternoon when I had arrived and was hiding in my room.
It started downwards, then two small hills (90 metres and 150 metres climbs) then flat for rest of route i.e. 30 miles or so. The scenery was very impressive today – a big sand dune, fantastic mountain ranges, salt fields and clear blue skies.
I arrived around 11am and found that my motel was attached to a casino. When I checked in they asked if I would like a complimentary drink from the bar (i.e. real free beer). I pretended to think about it and then said: “Yes please”. I also found out that they allow smoking in their casinos so I did not stay long. I always find casinos a very sad place, false hope, people who mostly cannot afford to gamble etc. etc.
I had a very nice Italian meal in a Mexican-Italian restaurant in the centre of Fallon and then retired to my room and watched the telly for a change.
Love & Kisses Franklin and Alan xx
