21st May 2018 Monday – Today almost felt like a work day for some reason

Hello Everybody!
Route: Jefferson City to Pilot Grove

For the non-mathematicians out there:
Distance: 64 miles (Total 1,391)
Average speed: 12.4 mph
Calories: 1,872
Cycling time: 5h 12min
Average cadence: 70 rpm
Climb: 719ft, Descent: 450ft
Heart (yes I have one): Max 131 Aver 111
Aver Temp: 23C, Max temp 30C
Temperament: Sorry to say this but I am beginning to enjoy this lark

Getting across the bridge from Jefferson City back to dear old Katy was a little easier as I managed to find the pedestrian/cycling lane – see photo for crazy maze at end of bridge.

Things got off to a good start and carried on the same way. Rrrrrrresult.

I met up with Tim who was 65 years old and 30 years ago had completed the TransAm from Yorktown up to Portland (I think). He was now just doing the Katy Trail and we stayed together for a few miles until I said I’d better get going and I sped off. We’d chatted for a while and I’d been nice so don’t have a go.

I also met up with Spielman and his grandson, who was due to go to College later this year – I think the kids are breaking up soon here so let’s hope they stay in doing “social media” and keep out of the way.

I had arranged to stay at a B&B right on the trail in Pilot Grove which was a very pretty place.

I had a great pizza from the local grocery store and a few beers (which again, magically, were added to my bag for free). The pizza should have been $15 as I made it up myself but they only charged me for a Supreme which was cheaper at $14.99. What a country and what a bunch of great people.

Jerry owned the B&B as well as 8 other buildings so he left me alone for the night. I was not scared at being by myself in a strange house, oh no, not scared at ALL!

Jerry had my laundry ready for me in the morning and I discovered that my top is yellow! Hurray for me. He made me my usual egg omelette rather than an omelette made from sticks. I did a Q&A with him and he did remind me of one of my recent customers. He had been in the US Airforce, worked at the Boonville casino and was now a property magnet – quite an attractive final role – geddit?

The day was hot but Katy kept a lot of the heat away although she did not do a great job of the last 15 miles which were noticeably not downhill. However, I still love Katy and I think she is having rude thoughts about me.

OK enough of that, there are adults reading this.

Night, night all from Al x
